Scrapbooking History

As I’m writing this on Wednesday, November 5, I’m also trying to keep my eyes open after a whirlwind night of watching the election results from the other side of the Atlantic. The time difference meant we turned on CNN at about 8pm Amsterdam time—of course, the biggest draws at that time were the high-tech toys in the newsroom studio! We’d switch to the BBC, then back to CNN, then pour another cup of coffee…I think I finally conked out about 2am and tuned back in around 5:30am. Bleary-eyed, we made it to the newsagent first thing this morning for all the newspapers, from the Herald Tribune to the local Dutch papers. “Why do you want the papers—we can read everything online, and the morning newspaper won’t even have the latest results,” said Keith. Well, of course I want them for my scrapbook…especially this copy of DeMorgen, with the “dual” cover.

Just a note: I love using newspaper articles and headlines on my scrapbook pages…it’s great for journaling and provides an historic aspect to a layout. If you, like me, plan to use newspapers on your pages, don’t forget to make color copies rather than using the real thing. Newspaper is full of lignin, so it deteriorates over time and can damage your photos as well. Copying them also allows you to reduce the format size so things can fit on your page and reduces the overall bulk.

So, I’ll be sorting through my scrapbooking stash for supplies and will probably have to pick up one or two new things. Fortunately (but not for my pocketbook) this weekend is the KreaDoe craft show in Utrecht. Last year I didn’t know what to expect…but this year I’ve definitely put my shopping list together as the choices are mind-boggling. It’s a huge show and I can’t wait to go. I better catch up on my sleep so I’ll have plenty of energy!

Hi Sarah,
Even though i'm not American, I have followed the election with much interest, I must say that I'm really glad that Barrack Obama is going to be the next president next january, I sure hope he is going to do lots of good things for your country, he seems like a lovely man.
I have 2 friends in the US, 1 in Virginia and 1 in Texas, i'm sure they are relieved it's all over, it's such a long process, totally different to Australia, here they just pick a date, they do some campaigning and that's it, LOL.
Martha
ps, if I happen to be near that stall you mentioned I will be sure to get some!!
