Super Cool Artists—Check ‘Em Out!
I just have to mention some of the coolest artists around: Miranda July and Harrell Fletcher. Their exhibition, Learning to Love You More, was on at a gallery in Eindhoven last weekend. The premise is that “Sometimes it is a relief to be told what to do….Sometimes it seems like the moment we let go of trying to be original, we actually feel something new—which was the whole point of being artists in the first place.” Their website, http://www.learningtoloveyoumore.com, is filled with assignments ranging from “write a press release about an ordinary event” to “photograph a significant outfit”. Anyone can accept an assignment, send in their report and see it posted online. They have exhibitions all over, with the completed assignments on display. I love the idea of making art and creativity accessible to everyone, and giving inspiration through such a widely available means.
(My favorite assignment is “make an encouraging banner” and I’ve included this picture of someone’s banner hanging at the bus station.)
I’m scurrying though my workload this week because this weekend we are going to Paris! I’m so excited—the first (and last) time I was there was on our honeymoon nine years ago. I have been obsessively planning my wardrobe for about two weeks now…and secretly planning Keith’s—if I’m not careful he’ll pack his t-shirt from the Lucky Lab Brewpub in Portland (it has a giant dog on the front) and his Converse sneakers. I’m also compiling my cheat sheet of French phrases so I can hit the flea markets with confidence. Au revoir—see you next week!

Hi Sara,
I just saw on the news tonight that Northwest Airlines will have a direct flight between Portland and Amsterdam. I instantly thought of you and your husband.
It was so nice to see you again at the Girlfriend's Getaway. I so look forward to it every year. You and Paulette make it so much fun. I wish we could do it every month!!
Enjoy yourself in Paris!! You deserve some downtime with your husband!!
Take care. Barbara Scoles
